We met along the river path one extremely cold morning and became instant friends.
For nearly three months I would daily call for him as we began our love affair.
Romeo! Romeo! Where art thou?
One morning, I learned he was taken from the river path in hopes of rescuing him. Only the next day he returned on his own, making his way through the night…a mile back to the river’s edge.
Now, he has been adopted and taken to Seattle some two hundred plus miles leaving behind “his lair” in the black berry brambles and three of his offspring.
What made this experience rich had been my reaction to his presence in my daily walks along the river’s edge. His strength to fend for his life, his compassion in caring for his offspring, letting them eat with him when food was brought to them as the temperatures dropped to the teens. Protecting. Guarding.
His gift to me as the season of winter fades is to be diligent in taking care of myself.
To persevere. To be tenacious. To be willing to accept help. Above all committed to what is important to me.
I feel blessed to have shared this season of time with my Romeo and hope that in his next adventure he is taken care of like a king!
